What is Life Transitions Counselling?

Undergoing transitions is a natural part of life. They are unavoidable. Life transitions signal the start of something new in our life. This can be a specific event or a period of change in our lives such as entering middle age or retirement. These transitions can cause us to start to reevaluate our lives and question choices and decisions we have made. Even positive changes such as starting an exciting new job require us to disrupt our routines and challenge our sense of stability.

Some common life transitions include career changes, starting university, moving away from home for the first time, getting married, having a child, turning a significant age (e.g. 40), divorce or retiring. Experiencing a wide variety of emotions is normal as these transitions can be exciting, stressful and overwhelming. You might find you are experiencing positive and negative emotions all at once!

How can Life Transitions Counselling help?

Life Transitions, Life Transitions Counselling, Evergreen Counselling Group, Counselling Kelowna

Transitions can be good or bad but either way they throw us into the unexpected and we have to change our routines and behaviours as a result. Moreover, transitions require us to adapt and grow, which can be a slow and uncomfortable process. The uncertainty of what might or might happen can lead to anxiety as we adjust to manage our “new normal”.

We have to confront our vulnerabilities and strengths which can be uncomfortable. Counselling can help you manage and adjust to these transitions. Times of change can ultimately lead to personal growth and new achievements but the path to get there is rarely easy. We can help you to manage your anxiety and find strategies to reduce overwhelm. Our therapists at Evergreen are here to help and the approach we take will be tailored to your specific situation.
